C-44 Solar Field

Project 8

Overview

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is looking to build a solar field and public recreation space on a site located near Indiantown, FL in Martin County. The goal of the project is to develop approximately 1,100 acres of land, accomplishing the following:

(1) Provide a 75-megawatt (MW) solar facility utilizing roughly 600-acres of land.

(2) Provide a stormwater management system for the project area.

(3) Provide a public use feature(s) conducive to water management.

(4) Provide additional low-maintenance and environmentally friendly features for public use that are similar to those in the vicinity.

Community Benefit

This project will benefit community residents by providing an area for recreational, event and educational use. While recreating, patrons can also learn about SFWMD’s commitment to protecting and restoring South Florida’s water resources, as well as local flora and fauna. Visitors will be able to experience natural areas via walking trails, a boardwalk and observation deck and tower. Additionally, the solar facility will serve as a source of renewable energy generation.
